My husband just forwarded me this email:
Hey Aaron,
Just wanted to let you know... your kids were AWESOME last night! I was so impressed. I had nabbed a few cookies from the other room... they didn't want any. They started building train tracks, and my toddler kept wrecking it... they were happy to include her. My babies were being noisy... they just quietly sat and watched their movie. Not even a hint of a single fight or argument or outburst between them. Aaron, if my kids turn out to be half as good as I saw your kids being last night, I'll be a happy woman. Just thought I should let you know.
My kids were at church entertaining themselves while Aaron was in a meeting. This was another mom who brought her kids to the room they were in. This compliment literally brought tears to my eyes. As moms, we don't often get accolades for our work.
Are my kids perfect? Far from it! But this little moment in time when someone else recognized sweetness and goodness in my little monsters will keep my going for awhile. And the fact that God has given me grace to parent at all is a miracle.
So I had an idea. If you are a mom take a moment today to tell another mom that she inspires you, that she is doing a good job, that her kiddos are lovely. Pray that God shows you exactly which mom out there needs a word of encouragement today.
Now excuse me. I'm off to write an email....
