Dog Tales

After years of being a no-pet family, we adopted a dog in March of 2009. Out of my 3 kids, only one still likes the dog. (I adore the dog by the way.) My youngest, Asher-4, asked me yesterday if we could take this one back and get a different dog. I told him no, that I liked Radar. Then he asked if we could just have 2 pets. I told him probably not, but if anyone was going to get a 2nd animal it would not be him.

I realized this had all stemmed from the fact that the love of his life had been over to play the day before. The beautiful blond 7 year-old that likes to have tea parties with Rosie is scared to death of our dog. And Asher did not like his hopeful future girlfriend to be uneasy. He wanted to do something about the "scary" dog ASAP.

After realizing Radar was not going away, I could see the little wheels turning in his brain. We went down a couple of hypothetical scenarios which would not abode well for him getting rid of the dog. Finally he said, "When Radar dies can I get a new dog?" After the long conversation I quickly replied, "Sure buddy."

I immediately regretted my answer. I could actually see him figuring out a way to annihilate our pet. "But Asher, you are not allowed to hurt Radar!"

Needless to say we have now instituted a Dog Protection Program over here at our house.

On another totally random side note: The other day I came home and our dog had a new toy. He had been out back while we were gone and someone had obviously given him a very nice present. Not sure who, but I am fairly positive it was not Asher.

Well you have to keep Radar alive and well. I think that would be oh so much easier than having to rename your blog. :)
