A Real Day in the Life...

So in case you thought I was some model parent, whipping up healthy meals and having smiley, content children, let me share with you a story.

Our story starts on Wednesday night. You know, the night I had yummy breakfast for dinner? Well, it dawned on me that we were out of everything after I made dinner. I mean everything. My house was void of milk, bread, eggs, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal.( My weakness in life is stocking up on staples.) I knew either my hubby or myself needed to run to the store, but by the time he got home we got sucked into playing Wii golf. (Did I mention we got a Wii?) I figured I would just run to the store the next morning. Except the next morning I started to blog. At some point my dear mother-in-law called to see if she could come get the kids. After my kids actually woke up and I stopped blogging, I remembered we had nothing to eat for breakfast. I called her back to see if she could come later or if I could send my kids over hungry, and she kindly offered to stop by the store and bring over milk and cereal. (thank you again!) She asked if Fruit Loops were okay, and since a) I didn't want to make it complicated, b) it was grandma buying and not me, and c) my kids have been eating a lot of veggies I said that was fine.

Okay, all was well and good until last night when I decided to make poached pears with homemade chocolate sauce. The sauce would not thicken and the recipe turned out pretty gross. I was frustrated so I left the saucepan, with a little soap and water, in the sink and went to play Wii. This morning I woke up to find hundreds of ants helping themselves to the edges of the pan. I quickly get on the phone to call the exterminator, and while I was on hold Asher asked me if he could pour his own cereal. "Sure, fine sweetie." When I got off the phone I walked in the kitchen and discovered the above scene. I just laughed and went and got my camera. Such a mommy no-no, right?

After I took a picture I put the extra cereal in a 2nd bowl. Asher ate at it for about 20 minutes and spilled a ton on the floor. He was kind enough to move all the furniture and sweep under the table. When I went to put the table and chairs back he threw himself on the floor kicking and screaming, "Don't move the table!!" I eventually got him calmed down, my table back into it's proper place and immediately started blogging about it. Because every bad day makes for great blog fodder!
