I am in a desperate need to post something slightly cheerful on my blog. Tonight, as I hopped from one stranger's blog to another I discovered an interesting twist on a meme. I found the template and instructions here for an I Am From poem. This is my attempt, I would love to see yours.
I am from azaleas and cedar and Mason Jars. From Coca-Cola cold on a steamy hot day, and those silly games we used to play.
I am from the street right before the cul-de-sac, cutting diagonal with my bike to play with friends. I am from curtains sheer blowing in the breeze and ashtrays made for Mother's Day.
I am from the Weeping Willow and the Georgia Pine, the strawberry patch and the kudzu vine.
I am from Christmas morning and pale white skin, from Jaunita and Druzella and Culbreath.
I am from the world of busy lives moving in and out of the yellow kitchen and do- it-yourself projects all about the house. I am from pickle juice and magnolia trees.
From "do your best", "sticks and stones" and "never second guess." From "you can be the first woman president."
I am from a baptist church where I wore pants and hymns and prayers that grandma chants.
I'm from up north and down south and across the Atlantic. I am from TV dinners enjoyed alone and Lil' Debbie's always at home.
From the Varsity where he skated to the car. She smiled and the rest was burgers and fries. I am from the birds she loved, and the square dance that changed our forever.
I am from a castle, a scrapbook and a memory lost in a flood of tears. I am from an antique ring and quilts that like my history were pieced together so carefully.

That's beautiful, Jen. Very nice.
